How would you define your personal style?
Very cultured. I’d like to call it ‘afropolitan’ in a way (a bit of everything, with strong influences from my African/Ghanaian background)
Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?
I believe everyone follows trends in a way. The difference is twisting it up and making it your own. Because in Fashion, there’s nothing new under the sun.
Are there any colours you tend to shy away from, and if so why?
I have NEVER been a fan of ‘neons’. Some people rock it nicely don’t get me wrong, but it has the tendency to look very tacky as well.
When you hear the term “Black Girl Killing It” what comes to mind?
A beautiful black ‘lady’ confidently being herself.
Do you accept anyone’s critique or are you confident in your style choices?
I do and I don’t really, lol. Depends on where this critique is coming from. For instance, my mother always jokes about my style (the last comment i got from her was, “you look like an African village post collector”)
As a child were you always into clothes or did you grow into your own fashion sense?
From day 1 I have always had a soft spot for clothes because I wanted to be a fashion designer. Nevertheless, I believe I have grown into my style, accepting what works for me and what doesn’t.
Do you participate in your local fashion scene?
This part of England (leicester) very rarely has anything going on in terms of a Fashion scene. So I do my bit by walking out with my style everyday…(just a joke guys..lol)
How does your day to day life factor into your wardrobe choices?
Well there are two main factors, one, I am a student and therefore I move around a lot in the day. Secondly, in England, we can have all four seasons in one day (not even cool) therefore the weather is also a big factor in what I choose to wear.
What is your greatest fashion pet peeve?
Wearing footless leggings under a knee length skirt (help me understand why people do that please!), Girls wearing clothes two sizes smaller than them (why o why!)
What is your favourite trend right now?
Colour Blocking is definitely eye catching.
Have you ever tried your hand at design or sewing?
All the time, I love Designing and am quite a crafty person as well.
Are there any designers that you like to wear or whose clothing stands out with you?
Currently I admire ‘Shika brown’ and ‘Mina Evans’. Both are upcoming Ghanaian designers and I have high hopes for them.
